Introduction

Experience

An award-winning journalist, former newspaper editor and managing editor of multiple mastheads with more than 27 years’ experience in communications, graphic design and marketing. Whether it’s content writing, editing, marketing, promotions, digital marketing or communications management, I’m your gal!

I have worked in the newspaper and magazine industry since 1993, on numerous publications including the Milton-Ulladulla Times, South Coast Leisure Times, Travel Bug Magazine, and have a particular flair for engaging content writing and social media marketing. Over the years I have written news and feature articles and taken photos for the Illawarra Mercury, Canberra Times, Melbourne Age, Sydney Moring Herald, Daily and Sunday Telegraph and many more.

I have excellent communication and management skills, both face-to-face and via traditional and digital media platforms. I am friendly, reliable, efficient and always up for a challenge.

I thrive in a friendly, face-paced environment, either working on my own or within a team that is focussed on providing excellent, relevant content in a timely manner. I’m highly articulate, creative and possess exceptional time management and organisational skills – imperative in my former dual role as both news editor and managing editor with Fairfax Media, Australasia’s leading integrated media company with print, radio and digital media.

For more than seven years I worked on the development of the Times digital publishing platforms and have an intimate and up-to-date understanding of online space, social media and its importance to the growth of every business. My involvement in the continually evolving world of digital media has afforded me the technical skills and networks to drive your company’s existing and future marketing initiatives.

I am proactive, energetic and an excellent communicator with the ability to adhere to deadlines, develop business relationships, manage and achieve budgets to deliver results.  My computer skills are second to none, having quickly mastered a range of booking, budgeting and ordering systems, through to complex graphic design and publishing software.

I have a close relationship with many local organisations, government representatives and business leaders, and have worked with my community on numerous projects, leading award-winning media campaigns call for upgrades of our local hospital, highway, harbour foreshore, civic centre and high school, as well as kick-starting a committee with local doctors that successfully raised more than $500,000 and lobbied for the construction of the Milton Community Cancer Clinic.

My leadership and communications skills, as well as close relationship with the community, secured the newspaper a number of NSW Country Press Association Awards, including the EC Summerlad Memorial Award for Journalism in 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06, the NSW CPA Award for Editorial Leadership and Community Involvement runner-up in 2004-05 and the EC Summerlad Memorial Award for News Reporting runner-up in 2006.

Under my editorial leadership, the paper also took out the prestigious PANPA (Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers Association) Newspaper of the Year title in 2004!

As part of my training with Fairfax, I have completed a series of Management Development courses for executives which included components such as situational leadership, managing human performance, employment law and discrimination, high performance presentations skills (public speaking), marketing, coaching, mentoring and counselling as well as creative thinking, business networking and personal development.

In 2016 I made the heart-breaking decision to leave the Times and commence my own freelance media service, which quickly led to a permanent role with Raine & Horne Real Estate, working alongside one of the country’s top agents, Ben Pryde. I was an integral part of his award-winning team, setting up and managing his personal social media platforms and websites, as well as managing Raine & Horne’s social media content and creating external websites, for large corporate clients. I continue to provide freelance social media and marketing services to a number of organisations and businesses across the fields of medicine, politics, entertainment, property, sports and tourism. I attained my real estate certificate of registration and white card during this time.

With two teenage girls, and currently rebuilding our home after it was lost in the New Year’s Eve bushfires on the South Coast, I’m super keen to take on more freelance work or a full-time position in media or communications on the South Coast.
